Dennis Shelden Leads ‘AI For Everyone’ Workshops at the AIA NY Center for Architecture

January 6th, 2026

Over 100 professionals from across the New York City architectural community gathered at the AIA New York | Center for Architecture for ‘AI For Everyone’ an interactive design and coding workshop. The event which took place on December 13th, 2025 was led by CASE research faculty and students who partnered with the AIA NY Future of Practice Committee. Co-organized by CASE Faculty Professor Dennis Shelden, the event was the fourth and final installment of the AI+A Salon Series. As the final session of the year, ‘AI for Everyone’ took on a different shape from the previous conversation-focused salons. Designed as a hands-on, practice-centered exploration of how AI can support designers at every technical level—from beginners to power users, the event merged prevalent topics surrounding AI in architecture with participatory learning.

By bridging the gap between academic research and professional practice, the ‘AI for Everyone’ series seeks to push the building industries toward wider technology adoption and fostered productive discussions on the evolving role of AI in design. Attendees participated in workshop sessions throughout the day led by a range of industry professionals including CASE Graduate student, Richard-Allen Foster. The half-day event shifted focus on hands-on exploration, offering "vibe coding" workshops tailored to every technical level, from beginner-friendly creative coding with p5.js to intermediate automation in Rhinoceros 3D, and advanced Revit add-in development. Workshops conducted by CASE faculty and graduate students were developed as extensions of current CASE technical courses.

CASE is thrilled to be a part of the ongoing conversation surrounding artificial intelligence in the built environment. This event underlines the significance of collaboration across industry to share ideas, and make new facets of research accessible for all. AI is a rapidly evolving tool and our researchers are committed to harnessing its power for good to support designers and enhance the functionality, health and sustainability of architectural systems.
