CASE Faculty Continue to Lead AI Industry Advancement Through Open Workshops

CASE faculty continue to lead AI related industry advancement activities in the New York City professional community, through our relationship with American Institute of Architecture's New York City chapter. On Saturday, September 19, CASE Faculty Dennis Shelden and Charlie Portelli, FAIA joined more than 100 built environment tech professionals for a day long "AI Open Mic and Agentic Workshop" event at the NYC Center for Architecture. Co-organized by Professor Shelden, the event featured hands on workshops on the emerging use of AI agents to automate design and simulation activities as well as small firm operations. Users at varying levels of experience were able to learn different uses of AI technology in practice such as automated connected BIM and simulation workflows for modeling, design focused chatbots and tools for managing and growing a small business.

Following the workshops, the "AI Open Mic" featured a dozen short presentations on advanced AI work in professional firms, academic research organizations and tech startups. This event was a part of the AIANY Future of Practice Committee’s Artificial Intelligence in Architecture (AI+A) series combines workshops and conversations on the emerging role of AI in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations (AECO). CASE is thrilled to be a part of this ongoing series, introducing and workshopping the emerging role of AI in the design and construction field, and helping industry professionals advance their skills and growing their practice by adopting these new technologies.
