PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Enhancing Environmental Control Systems with Intelligent Desiccant Materials for Thermal Comfort, Energy Generation and Water Recuperation

Dehumidification offers the most effective means to regulating indoor air comfort within hot and humid climate zones. Certain areas within these zones are subjected to monsoon season, receiving little or no rainfall during most the year and leading to depreciation of potable water resources. Contemporary building system technologies operate through use of energy-intensive HVAC systems requiring the conditioning of outdoor air in a linear fashion. Advances in biotechnology offer compelling cases for tech-transfer through the architectural applications of new materials. High-performance desiccant materials provide opportunity for building integration through analysis of system flows and programmatic requirements.
